Hi,
I have spent a lot of time searching, and have not found a solution to my particular problem. I am trying to install the latest version of Java (8, update 73) on a Windows 7, 64 bit machine (Windows 7, service pack 1). I am attempting to install Java for 32 bit, as those are the web browsers I am using. I am interfacing with an external device over ethernet, and Java is required for this device software, so I have to use JAVA.
I am downloading the stand alone 'offline' installation of java, and running as administrator. The installer will ask if I want to allow the Java installer to make changes to the computer, and I say yes. After about 10 seconds, the Java installer shows up, but only the Java logo is visible on the taskbar, no text - and the actual installer window is completely blank - no text, no progress bar, nothing. I have left it like this for hours and it will never install. I also never get an error message.
Things I have attempted:
-Downloaded and installed all the latest Windows updates for the OS.
-Turned off firewall and anti-virus while attempting to install the 'offline' Java installer
-Rebooted the computer in a 'Clean boot' environment, then attempted to install
-Downloaded and ran the Windows 'Fit It' installation fix utility - no errors were found

None of the above worked, and I still can't install Java. Anything I'm missing? What else can I try? What could be causing this type of an installation hang up?
